While in DC we wanted to make sure we went to a Jose Andres restaurant, so Saturday night we hit up Jaleo for tapas. We kicked things off with a couple cocktails:
Then it was onto food. A bread basket arrived with delish olive oil spiked with garlic & rosemary:
Next, ham & cheeses of course. Jamón Ibérico, jamón Serrano and chorizo Palacios; a selection of cheeses with fresh honey-soaked apricots; and pan con tomate:
Cebolla asada con queso Valdeón: Roasted sweet onions, pinenuts, and Valdeón blue cheese
Coliflor salteada con aceitunas y dátiles: Sautéed cauliflower with dates and olives
Croquetas de jamón Serrano: Traditional Serrano ham fritters
Buñuelos de bacalao: Fried salt cod fritters with honey alioli
Calamares a la romana: Fried squid served with alioli
Vieiras con romesco y mojo verde: Seared scallops with romesco sauce and mojo verde
Cordero a la brasa con salsa de romero: Grilled lamb T-bones with rosemary sauce
Everything was really good, but we probably ordered one dish too many. Definitely full at the end. The cauliflower was really good, much better when roasted or broiled. The ham croquettes were so soft and warm, melt in your mouth. the honey aioli with the bacalao fritters was sweet. The roasted onions with blue cheese were amazing. The romesco sauce with the scallops had just the right amount of tang. MMM, a great meal to end our trip with…
